About the project:

“Helenow” is one of the oldest institutions providing support to children and youth with special needs. It is a complex of institutions dedicated to education, treatment and welfare of children and youth with disabilities, especially caused by neurological disorders and dysfunctions. The volunteers help mostly at hippotherapy unit. Depending on volunteers skills and interests, additional tasks in the boarding school, graduate club or with art or music therapies are possible.

Volunteer’s activities:

- help to prepare horses for sessions and take care of them after sessions, e.g. cleaning horses, saddling horse,

- assist therapists and children during hippotherapy,

- help with homework and self-study activities for the pupils of the boarding school,

- transporting the pupils on the area of the Centre and assisting during excursions and trips,

- arranging intercultural activities and presentations.

Please note that hippotherapy is conducted outdoors throughout the year regardless of the weather conditions. It is physical work in constant contact with horses.


Volunteer’s profile:

- motivated to work with children and youth with disabilities,

- friendly and willing to get to know and work with people,

- open-minded and open to different cultures and lifestyles,

- independent and reliable,

- volunteers should not be afraid of animals and be willing to work with them,

- able to communicate in English.


Practical conditions:

Accommodation: Shared room in a flat on the premises of the Centre.

Food: The volunteer will receive about 100 EUR for food per month and will have to cook her-/himself. It is possible to have lunches from the canteen during working days (money for food will be reduced).

Transport: the volunteers work and live on the premises of “Helenow” centre. They receive Warsaw transportation cards which allow them to travel with public transport in Warsaw.

International travel: reimbursement up to 275 EUR.
